However, I recently stumbled across a picture that suggests the first movie theater in\u00a0Orange County was\u00a0possibly\u00a0opened a few years earlier and at a different site all together. The Santa Ana Theatre (alternatively billed as the &#8220;Electric Theatre&#8221;), located on East Fourth Street, in Santa Ana, apparently opened around 1906 (possibly 1908), under the ownership of one &#8220;Doc&#8221; Roberts (Mr. Roberts is\u00a0standing at the far left of the picture, beside his wife).\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"content\" style=\"margin-top: 0px; text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/cinelog.org\/cinelog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/01\/firsttheatre.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-56\" style=\"border: black 2px solid;\" title=\"First Orange County Theatre\" src=\"http:\/\/cinelog.org\/cinelog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/01\/firsttheatre-300x207.jpg\" alt=\"First Orange County Theatre?\" width=\"300\" height=\"207\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cinelog.org\/cinelog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/01\/firsttheatre-300x207.jpg 300w, https:\/\/cinelog.org\/cinelog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/01\/firsttheatre-150x103.jpg 150w, https:\/\/cinelog.org\/cinelog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/01\/firsttheatre.jpg 700w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"content\" style=\"margin-top: 0px; text-align: left;\">Thus far, I haven&#8217;t been able to find a great deal of information on this theatre, outside of an anecdote that Mr. Roberts was\u00a0said to have stood behind the cinema&#8217;s screen and provided dialog\/sound effects for the silent films being played.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Conventional theatre lore has generally hailed Santa Ana&#8217;s Temple theatre as the first cinema in Orange County, having opened in 1909.
